What happens when you set a goal, make your plan, put years of work toward it, and finally, when you are ever-so-close, circumstances shift, and your dream falls apart? This is what happened when entrepreneur and explorer Michael Schauch, an avid rock-climber, set out to conquer a mountain in the Himalayas that he had only seen previously in photos. As he embarked upon his quest and traveled to Nepal, the weather shifted, and it was not possible to reach his goal. Feeling frustrated and defeated, he very unexpectedly met a child instead which drastically changed the trajectory of his life. The little girl’s name was “Karma” and he and his wife felt an instant, and inexplicable, connection to her. As a result of this meeting, Michael began a foundation that supports the education of youth in the Himalayas.
